In the evening, meet your mountain guide for a comprehensive climb briefing, equipment inspection, and final preparation for your Kilimanjaro adventure. This is an excellent opportunity to ask questions and ensure all gear is suitable for the trek.
Accommodation: Under The Shade Safari Lodge
Meals: Dinner
After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Gate for registration and permit formalities before continuing to the trailhead. Your trek begins through the lush rainforest zone, home to towering trees, colorful birdlife, and black-and-white colobus monkeys.
The trail is relatively gentle, allowing you to settle into a comfortable trekking rhythm while enjoying the rich biodiversity of Kilimanjaro's lower slopes.
Altitude: 2,100m – 2,650m
Hiking Time: 3–4 Hours
Accommodation: Mti Mkubwa Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Leaving the rainforest behind, the trail gradually ascends into the heath and moorland zone. Giant heathers and unique alpine vegetation dominate the landscape as the views become increasingly spectacular.
Today's trek offers panoramic views across the Shira Ridge and surrounding plains while providing a gradual gain in altitude essential for acclimatization.
Altitude: 2,650m – 3,500m
Hiking Time: 5–6 Hours
Accommodation: Shira 1 Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Today's trek crosses the expansive Shira Plateau, one of the largest high-altitude plateaus in the world. The terrain is relatively gentle, making this an important acclimatization day.
As you continue eastward, enjoy magnificent views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding volcanic landscape. Your guides may also lead a short acclimatization walk after reaching camp to help your body adjust to the altitude.
Altitude: 3,500m – 3,850m
Hiking Time: 4–5 Hours
Accommodation: Shira 2 Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Today follows the highly effective "climb high, sleep low" acclimatization principle. Ascend steadily through semi-desert terrain to Lava Tower, an impressive volcanic rock formation standing at 4,630 meters.
After lunch at Lava Tower, descend gradually to Barranco Camp. Although you finish the day at a lower altitude, the exposure to higher elevation significantly improves acclimatization and prepares your body for the summit attempt.
The Barranco Valley is one of the most scenic locations on the mountain, surrounded by towering cliffs and giant groundsels.
Altitude: 3,850m – 4,630m – 3,960m
Hiking Time: 6–8 Hours
Accommodation: Barranco Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
After breakfast, tackle the famous Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting sections of the Lemosho Route. Despite its intimidating appearance, the climb is non-technical and rewards trekkers with breathtaking views over glaciers, valleys, and distant plains.
After reaching the top, continue across rolling alpine terrain before descending into the Karanga Valley and making a final climb to Karanga Camp.
This shorter trekking day provides valuable additional acclimatization time, increasing comfort and maximizing summit success.
Altitude: 3,960m – 4,035m
Hiking Time: 4–5 Hours
Accommodation: Karanga Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Following breakfast, continue your ascent through the alpine desert zone toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before summit day.
The landscape becomes increasingly rugged and barren as you approach higher elevations. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch and spend the afternoon resting and preparing for the summit attempt.
An early dinner is served before your guide conducts a final summit briefing. It is recommended to rest as much as possible before the midnight departure.
Altitude: 4,035m – 4,673m
Hiking Time: 3–5 Hours
Accommodation: Barafu Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Around midnight, begin the most challenging and rewarding stage of your Kilimanjaro adventure. Trek slowly under a sky filled with stars toward Stella Point on the crater rim before continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.
Witness a spectacular sunrise above the clouds as you celebrate your achievement at the Roof of Africa. After taking photographs and enjoying the incredible views, begin your descent to Barafu Camp for a short rest and meal before continuing down to Mweka Camp.
This is the longest and most demanding day of the climb, but also the most unforgettable.
